12 luxury adults-only hotels in Italy: the best in 2026

Tripplo· Founder: Axel Hernborg

In short: We checked several hundred hotels across Italy. Twelve call themselves adults-only on their own websites and take no children: four on Sardinia, two on the Amalfi Coast and Capri, two in South Tyrol, two on Lake Garda, one in Tuscany and one in Liguria. Where an age is given, it is 16, or 18 at La Villa del Re.

Italy's luxury adults-only hotels are spread across strikingly different landscapes.

The review analysis covers a sample of 710 reviews from 12 of the 12 hotels listed. Mentions are counted after automated classification of texts that may be shortened. Latest analysis in this selection: October 2026. How we count mentions.

How we chose and ordered the hotels

We checked several hundred hotels across Italy: on Sardinia, Sicily, Capri and Ischia, along the Amalfi Coast, in Tuscany, Puglia and Liguria, around Lake Garda, Lake Como and Lake Maggiore, in South Tyrol and Trentino, and in Rome, Florence, Venice and Milan. Twelve made the list, four-star hotels as well as five-star ones, and each also had to clear a minimum guest score. They are ordered by guest score, so the order reflects how satisfied guests have been rather than which region will suit you. The regional guide below helps with that choice.

Each hotel had to say on its own website that it is adults-only. We used booking sites only to find the minimum age where the hotel's own pages gave none. To qualify, a hotel had to accept guests from 16 at the youngest or have an explicit adults-only policy for the whole house. Hotels that only set an age limit of 12, 13 or 14, and adults-only zones inside family hotels, do not count.

Where to stay in Italy: sea, lakes, mountains or countryside?

Sardinia has four of the hotels, spread around the island. Grand Relais dei Nuraghi is in a quiet part of Baja Sardinia on the Costa Smeralda in the north-east, looking out over the Maddalena archipelago, with Porto Cervo about 15 minutes away by car. La Villa del Re has its own beach near Costa Rei in the south-east, about an hour's drive from Cagliari airport. Hotel Nautilus Excelsior stands a few steps from Poetto Beach in Cagliari itself, and Corte Bianca lies at Marina di Cardedu in Ogliastra on the east coast, where a car makes life much easier. Grand Relais dei Nuraghi is seasonal and closes in winter.

The Amalfi Coast and Capri have two. Monastero Santa Rosa is a former monastery on the cliffs at Conca dei Marini, above the Gulf of Salerno, with a shuttle to Amalfi. Hotel Villa Brunella is on Via Tragara in Capri town, on the hillside above Marina Piccola. Neither, however, is a beach hotel: the pool and the view are the heart of the stay. Both are seasonal and close in winter.

Liguria has Villa Riviera Resort, two historic villas on the hillside above Lavagna on the Riviera, between Portofino and the Cinque Terre. Sestri Levante is 10 km away and Genoa airport 56 km.

Lake Garda has two hotels at opposite ends of the lake. EALA My Lakeside Dream is terraced down to the water just outside Limone sul Garda on the north-western shore, with a private beach on the lake. AQVA Boutique Hotel is in Sirmione, on the peninsula at the southern end, within walking distance of the old town and the thermal baths.

South Tyrol, in the mountains of the far north, has two spa hotels. Avidea looks down on Merano from the slopes above Algund, and My Arbor stands among the trees on the Plose above Brixen, 350 metres from the cable car to the ski area. This is the region for a break outside summer: skiing in winter, hiking the rest of the year.

Tuscany is represented by Via Roma 33 in Stia, a small town in the Casentino Valley in the province of Arezzo. It is rural, green Tuscany, far from the crowds of Florence, and a car is the easiest way in; Florence airport is 59 km away.

Hotels we reviewed but left out

  • Forestis Dolomites near Brixen, Quellenhof See Lodge in the Passeier Valley, Hotel Salten in Hafling and Leitgam in Kiens: celebrated South Tyrol spa hotels for grown-ups, but they accept teenagers from 14, and Forestis does not describe itself as adults-only on its own website at all.
  • Preidlhof in Naturns: adults-only from 16 by its own website, but it has too few guest reviews on Booking for us to place it yet.
  • La Posta Hotel & Thermal Spa in Bagno Vignoni, Excess Venice and Grand Hotel Resort & SPA Ma&Ma on La Maddalena carry 'Adults Only' in their names, and Masseria San Domenico in Puglia calls itself a hotel for adults, yet all four welcome guests from 14. Boutique Hotel Poggio ai Santi in San Vincenzo and Romantik Hotel Santer in Toblach set the limit at 12.
  • Hotel La Minerva, Hotel Scalinatella and Villa Certosa on Capri and Maison La Minervetta in Sorrento: booking sites say no children, but the hotels' own websites say nothing about an age limit or an adults-only policy.
  • Capri Tiberio Palace, Jumeirah Capri Palace, J.K. Place Capri and Hotel Villa Cimbrone in Ravello: well-known names on Capri and the coast, but they welcome children of any age. Hotel Punta Tragara on Capri accepts children from 12.
  • Lefay Resort & SPA Lago di Garda in Gargnano: marked child-free on Booking, but its own website welcomes a limited number of children up to 11 and runs a kids' club; only the spa is for adults. Its sister resort in the Dolomites works the same way.
  • Sublimis in Camogli, Parc Hotel Gritti in Bardolino and Seven Park Hotel Lake Como: genuine adults-only hotels, but below our guest-score floor.
  • Sicily: we found no luxury adults-only hotel there above our guest-score floor. ADLER Sicilia is listed as child-free on Booking but sells family suites on its own website, Hotel Metropole Taormina accepts children from 12 and Villa Fiorita in Taormina takes teenagers over 14.
  • Rome, Florence, Venice and Milan: the adults-only listings we found were mostly guest houses and suites without an official star rating, and the luxury hotels in these cities accept children. None met our requirements.

One thing stands out in Italy: 'adults-only' often means teenagers from 14, and booking sites regularly mark hotels as child-free when the hotels themselves say nothing of the kind. We only list hotels that are for adults throughout and say so on their own websites.

Frequently Asked Questions

Monastero Santa Rosa, Avidea, My Arbor, EALA My Lakeside Dream, Villa Riviera Resort and Via Roma 33 state 16 on their own websites. For the sea, Sardinia has four of the hotels, from the Costa Smeralda to Cagliari, while the Amalfi Coast, Capri and Liguria offer cliffside and hillside hotels with pools and views rather than beaches. Lake Garda has two lakeside hotels, one at Limone in the north and one in Sirmione in the south. South Tyrol has two spa hotels in the mountains, and Tuscany one in the quiet Casentino Valley.

Monastero Santa Rosa on the Amalfi Coast, Hotel Villa Brunella on Capri and Grand Relais dei Nuraghi on Sardinia are seasonal and close in winter. For a winter break, South Tyrol is the obvious choice: My Arbor is 350 metres from the cable car to the Plose ski area. Via Roma 33 in Tuscany has indoor and outdoor pools open all year. Check opening dates with the hotel before you book.

La Villa del Re has direct access to a private beach, Hotel Nautilus Excelsior is a few steps from Poetto Beach and Corte Bianca has a private beach section about 250 metres away. Grand Relais dei Nuraghi's private beach is a five-minute walk. On Lake Garda, EALA has a private beach on the lake and AQVA a garden down to the water with a private beach area. Monastero Santa Rosa, Villa Brunella and Villa Riviera sit high above the sea, with pools and views instead.

My Arbor has a spa with five indoor and outdoor pools, Avidea a spa and a rooftop sky pool, and Corte Bianca a large outdoor wellness area included in the stay. Monastero Santa Rosa's spa, with tepidarium, Turkish bath and whirlpool, is free for guests, EALA has a spa above the lake, and Via Roma 33's wellness centre stays open late. AQVA has no spa in the hotel, but Sirmione's thermal baths are about a ten-minute walk away.
