Staff are repeatedly called friendly and helpful, and one guest singled out the beef tenderloin at dinner. The trade-offs come with the size and the setting. The hotel sits on a busy main road that ambulances also use, so light sleepers may notice the traffic. A few guests found breakfast modest for a hotel of this size, and others felt the team was slightly understaffed, with no one free to help with luggage. For sightseeing on foot, though, the location makes up for a lot.

Breakfast is described as top-notch, the rooms as comfortable and clean, and the staff as professional and helpful. Some rooms have a terrace with city views, and the rooms are soundproofed. The hotel feels geared mainly towards business travellers, which suits some guests better than others. The bar and restaurant offer a fairly limited choice, and one guest wished for more English-language channels on the TV. For a smooth, well-organised stay with excellent rail links on the doorstep, though, it is a sensible choice.

Parking is off-site, although guests who used it found it convenient, and the TV service is described as poor. Only some rooms have a balcony with a view of the French Cathedral, so it is worth checking the room type when booking. The rooms are generously sized, quiet even in the morning and dark at night thanks to good curtains, and the beds earn particular praise. Staff are described as welcoming and helpful, and the restaurant, with German, international and sushi dishes, is a highlight for several guests. Museum Island and Berlin Cathedral are within easy walking distance. The drawbacks are mostly small but real. The hotel is expensive, and a few guests found the lighting controls overly complicated, the in-room coffee disappointing or the daily cleaning patchy. Breakfast also has to be booked in advance, which suits planners better than spontaneous guests. Those who value design and a central Mitte address will still find it worth the outlay.

One guest also found that the restaurants closed early and room service was unavailable late in the evening. As a calm, well-equipped base on the city's western side, though, it works very well.
