Unlike most train companies, TPE publishes its own discount codes on tpexpress.co.uk. Students with a 16-25 Railcard who enter TPESTUDENT get up to 50% off Standard Advance tickets, and new app customers get 10% off their first booking with TPEAPPNEW until 15 November 2026. Without a code, Advance tickets bought before the day save up to 50% against an Anytime single, groups of 3 to 9 get 20% off Advance fares, and there is no booking fee when you book direct. - Book Advance, and book early. Advance singles bought before the day of travel save up to 50% against an Anytime single, and the cheapest go first. Set up a Cheap Ticket Alert to be emailed when tickets go on sale.
- Student with a 16-25 Railcard? Use the student offer page or the app and enter TPESTUDENT for up to 50% off Standard Advance tickets.
- New to the app? Until 15 November 2026, TPEAPPNEW takes 10% off your first app booking of £15 or more, on top of any Railcard or child discount.

Is there a TransPennine Express discount code?▼
Yes, TPE publishes two on its own website. TPESTUDENT gives students with a 16-25 Railcard up to 50% off Standard Advance tickets when booked through the student offer page or the TPExpress app. TPEAPPNEW gives new customers 10% off their first booking in the TPExpress app (minimum spend £15, one use per account) until 23:59 on 15 November 2026. Both apply to Standard Advance tickets and Standard Airport Advance tickets to and from Manchester Airport. We take no codes from coupon sites or forums.
How does the TransPennine Express student discount work?▼
You need a 16-25 Railcard, which TPE sells on its website and app for £35 for one year or £80 for three years. A Railcard normally takes a third off; TPE raises that to up to 50% on its Standard Advance tickets when you buy through the orange 'Buy Tickets' button on the student offer page or in the TPExpress app and enter TPESTUDENT. Advance tickets bought through other parts of the website or at a ticket office do not get the extra discount. Carry your Railcard when you travel.
Is there a TransPennine Express NHS or Blue Light Card discount?▼
Not on tpexpress.co.uk. We found no NHS, Blue Light Card or key worker discount on the site, so we do not list one. The discounts TPE does publish are for students with a 16-25 Railcard (TPESTUDENT), jobseekers with a Jobcentre Plus Railcard, groups, and new app customers (TPEAPPNEW). TPE also sells the national Railcards, including the Veterans' Railcard, which gives a third off most rail travel for eligible veterans.
Can I change or refund a TransPennine Express Advance ticket?▼
You can change an Advance ticket to a different time and date free of charge if you do it before 18:00 the day before travel, but you pay any difference in fare. Advance tickets are non-refundable unless your train is delayed or cancelled and you could not travel. If you arrive 15 minutes or more late, you can claim Delay Repay within 28 days; Advance tickets bought on tpexpress.co.uk or the app qualify for automated Delay Repay.
Do children travel free on TransPennine Express?▼
Children under five travel free with a fare-paying adult. For older children, TPE points to the Family & Friends Railcard, which gives a third off adult fares and 60% off children's fares. TPEAPPNEW can also be combined with Railcard discounts and child tickets.
