Every destination's best hotels outside the country ranking above. Each destination page ranks its own list in full.
Right now: 15° air · 21° sea
Not every place suits every trip. Here is how the destinations differ, with the hotels we list in each and the guides that narrow the choice further.

Lavender, stone villages and the Adriatic's most fashionable harbour, with a few serious hotels and an adults-only option. Best for couples and sailors; Hvar Town gets loud in July and August.

The walled old town, the Adriatic at its clearest and the country's best five-star hotels on the coast just outside the walls. Crowded from June to September; go in May or October if you can.

A living Roman palace as a city centre, ferries to every island and a growing set of design hotels. A better base than a beach holiday; the city beaches are modest.
How guest ratings, hotel class and facts inform our selections.
Read our methodologyFive-star standards and a strong international premium profile
Exceptional locations by the sea, within historic town centres, or across private resort grounds
Infinity pools, heated indoor pools, and well-appointed spa facilities
Cuisine with a distinct focus on Adriatic produce, Istrian truffles, and local wines
Design rooms and suites featuring terraces, sea views, or heritage character
Attentive personal service including concierge, transfers, boat excursions, and bespoke activities
Ratings and standards
Our selection is drawn from hotels that clearly belong to Croatia's premium tier: mainly five-star properties and well-established boutique addresses with a consistently high standard. In making our choices, we have taken into account international recognition, reliably strong guest reviews, and an overall quality across rooms, service, dining, and location. Hotels featured typically carry guest ratings of around 9.0 or above, and many appear in international travel guides and prestigious industry lists.
Unique advantages
In Croatia, star ratings are only part of the picture. What counts is what a hotel actually delivers. We have therefore prioritised properties with tangible added value, such as infinity pools, spa facilities with hydrotherapy, private or semi-private bathing areas, restaurants with a serious gastronomic pedigree, interiors designed by acclaimed architects, terraces with sea views, historic palazzo settings, wine experiences, and private transfer or boat arrangements.
Location and accessibility
Location carries considerable weight in our selection. We have included hotels that are either positioned in prime coastal settings, in direct proximity to culturally and historically significant town centres, or in more secluded surroundings where peace and privacy form an integral part of the luxury experience. A top luxury hotel in Croatia should either offer easy access to town life, marinas and attractions, or give a real sense of retreat, with nature, views and seclusion as its main appeal.
