Stella Mare Eco Boutique House
Hvar, Croatia
Affordable luxuryStella Mare Eco Boutique House is for travellers who come to Hvar for quiet rather than nightlife… It is a small, family-run place in the village of Zavala on the island's south coast, and guests describe the setting as pure calm, with sea views from the balconies and small, uncrowded beaches nearby. The hosts are the heart of the stay: reviewers write about the care they take, the homely atmosphere and the food in the restaurant, which serves Italian and Croatian dishes and caters for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diets. A sauna, a hot tub and yoga classes suit the slow pace. The remoteness is part of the appeal and also the main drawback. Zavala has very little in the way of shops, so stock up before you arrive, and trips to Hvar town or Stari Grad are easier by car. The outdoor pool is open only in season. For couples seeking a peaceful retreat, it is a warm and personal choice.

Valamar Amicor Resort
Hvar, Croatia
FamiliesValamar Amicor Resort is built around families, and parents are its most enthusiastic reviewers… The resort lies in the Helios area of Stari Grad, close to the beach and to the old town, and keeps children busy with three swimming pools, a waterpark, an indoor play area and plenty of entertainment. Guests praise the clean, well-equipped villas, which feel pared back and eco-minded, along with friendly, helpful staff and a breakfast buffet with plenty of choice. The focus on families shapes the trade-offs. Couples hoping for a quiet, adult mood may find it is not quite their kind of place, and at dinner the half-board buffet can feel busy and hectic, with dishes that start to repeat over a longer stay. In some of the smaller rooms the air-conditioning from the central area does not quite reach, so they can get warm. For families with young children, though, it is an easy, well-equipped base on Hvar's north coast.
Why this position
Sits behind #8 on both the score (9.3 to 9.4) and the sample it rests on (214 to 434 reviews).

Hotel Fortuna
Hvar, Croatia
Hotel Fortuna is for travellers who would rather wake up by the sea than in the middle of Hvar town's nightlife… It sits on the beach in the small village of Milna, about 5 km from the town centre, and many rooms have a balcony looking out over the water. Guests repeatedly mention the peaceful setting, the direct access to the beach and staff who are friendly and quick to help. Rooms are freshly updated and clean, several guests describe them as generously sized, and breakfast gets the day off to a good start. The quiet location is also the trade-off. Public transport into Hvar town is limited, so evenings out usually mean a taxi or your own car, and the car park can be tight for larger vehicles. A few guests found the beds very firm. If you want calm beach days with Hvar town within reach rather than right outside the door, Milna is a relaxed choice.
Why this position
Rests on more guest reviews than #9 (593 to 214), at a slightly lower score (9.2 to 9.3).

Heritage Hotel Dea Hvar
Hvar, Croatia
Heritage Hotel Dea Hvar suits travellers who want Hvar town on their doorstep without sleeping on its busiest stretch… The hotel occupies a historic building in the old quarter, tucked just off the promenade, so the harbour, the main square and the waterfront restaurants are a short walk away. Guests talk most about the staff, who often meet arrivals at the boat, carry bags up to the hotel and share local tips, and about a breakfast cooked to order, with gluten-free choices. Rooms are spotless and come with soundproofing, air-conditioning and small touches such as bathrobes. The old-town setting comes with trade-offs. The entrance sits about 50 steps up from the port, which makes it a poor fit for anyone with limited mobility, and some rooms are on the small side. There is no pool, so swimming means the town beaches or a boat trip to the Pakleni Islands. For couples who plan to explore Hvar town on foot, it is a calm, well-run base.
Why this position
Sits behind #10 on both the score (9.1 to 9.2) and the sample it rests on (196 to 593 reviews).

How we chose these hotels
At our latest review (August 2026) the properties listed above were measured against the same standard: sustained guest scores on both Booking.com and Google (weighted by how many reviews sit behind them), five-star class or an equivalent premium level, a genuinely first-rate location, and facilities that set the hotel apart.
As a guideline we look for around 8.5 or higher on Booking.com, but no single number decides on its own. When the sources disagree, the broader evidence wins. Guest scores on this page update continuously, and the selection is re-reviewed at regular intervals. The full standard is described in how we choose hotels.
