Dionysos Beach Resort & Villas

Why this position
A 4-star hotel scoring 9.5 from 456 reviews: the guest verdict outweighs the star class. Guests on Booking rate it above #3 (9.5 to 9.4), but #3 leads on Google (4.7 to 4.6), which the ranking weighs equally.

Golden Sun
Ios, Greece
FamiliesGolden Sun is a family-run hotel for travellers who want warm hosts as much as a pool… It sits above Gialos, about 300 metres from the beach and a 10-minute walk from Chora, and its pool looks out over the port. Guests come back again and again to the couple who own it: they explain the island, recommend restaurants and help arrange things like quad hire. The rooms are clean and comfortable, all with balconies, and breakfast is served in the breakfast room or by the pool. The compromises are small. Some rooms and balconies are on the compact side, and the walk up from the port is a climb, although a free transfer covers arrival and departure and buses to the beaches stop outside. Rooms are simple rather than lavish, and nights are not always quiet. For couples and friends who want a friendly base between the harbour and Chora, it is an easy choice.
Why this position
A 4-star hotel scoring 9.5 from 197 reviews: the guest verdict outweighs the star class. The same guest score as #4 (9.5), on a smaller body of reviews (197 to 456).

Gianemma Luxury Apartments
Ios, Greece
Private poolGianemma Luxury Apartments suits travellers who want a self-catering base with a view… The apartments sit on the hillside above Mylopotas Beach, about 150 metres from the sand, and every one has a private balcony looking over the bay. Guests talk warmly about the pool area, the modern interiors and how clean everything is, with daily cleaning and fresh towels, and the reception team is praised for a smooth check-in and friendly help. The suites add a private pool, and one guest who booked one found it spacious, with two bathrooms and a well-equipped kitchen. The compromises are small but worth knowing. The property is close to the road, so there can be some traffic noise, and one guest found the blankets thin. Chora is about 1 km away, a 15 to 20-minute walk, though a local bus stops nearby. For couples and friends who want sea views, a good pool and a kitchen of their own, it is an easy choice.
Why this position
A 4-star hotel scoring 9.4 from 148 reviews: the guest verdict outweighs the star class. Sits behind #6 on both the score (9.4 to 9.6) and the sample it rests on (148 to 212 reviews).

Ios Art Suites
Ios, Greece
Ios Art Suites suits travellers who want to stay close to Chora without sleeping in the middle of it… The owners have refurbished the property to a high standard, and guests keep returning to the same points: spotless suites, very comfortable beds, quiet nights and hosts who go out of their way to help. Several found their suite exactly as pictured, or better, and those who booked one with a private plunge pool or hot tub call it a highlight. The trade-offs come from what the property is not. There is no shared pool and little beyond a coffee shop and an outdoor seating area, so meals happen in the village. Kolitsani Beach is about a 15-minute walk away, and the shuttle costs extra. For couples who want a calm, well-kept base a short walk from Chora's lanes and tavernas, it works well; anyone after resort facilities or a room on the sand should look elsewhere.
Why this position
A 4-star hotel scoring 9.4 from 104 reviews: the guest verdict outweighs the star class. The same guest score as #7 (9.4), on a smaller body of reviews (104 to 148).

Agalia Luxury Suites
Ios, Greece
DesignAgalia Luxury Suites suits travellers who want a characterful suite near the sea rather than a large resort… It stands 50 metres from Tzamaria Beach, 2 km from the port, and every suite opens onto a furnished balcony, with some adding Aegean Sea views, a separate bedroom and a private pool. Guests talk most about the interiors, which they call unique, about spacious and spotless rooms, and about staff who look after them from the port pick-up to the final drop-off. The trade-offs are modest but worth knowing. There is no spa at the hotel, so anyone planning treatments should check where they take place. One guest found the pools cold and in need of frequent clearing of insects. Chora is 4 km away, which means a bus or taxi for evenings out. For couples who value a stylish room with its own pool over nightlife on the doorstep, it is a calm and well-run base on Ios.
Why this position
The same guest score as #8 (9.4), on a smaller body of reviews (52 to 104).

Ios Palace Hotel & Spa
Ios, Greece
Spa & wellnessIos Palace Hotel & Spa offers a complete range of accommodation options, all with a balcony overlooking the picturesque Mylopotas bay…
Why this position
Rests on more guest reviews than #9 (274 to 52), at a slightly lower score (9.2 to 9.4).

Relux Ios Hotel
Ios, Greece
Relux Ios Hotel is built around convenience… It stands in Gialos, 300 metres from the port, so arriving and leaving by ferry takes only a few minutes on foot, and restaurants, cafés and bars are close by. Even so, guests describe the nights as quiet, because the hotel sits away from the loud clubs. Days revolve around the outdoor pool, which guests call the perfect place to relax, and they speak warmly about the kind, helpful staff, the spacious and spotless rooms and a breakfast with plenty of choice. The main trade-off is the trip to Chora. The village is about a 10-minute drive away; it can be walked, but the road is steep and one guest found the hourly bus limiting. The hotel is not on the sand either, with the beach at Gialos 350 metres away, and only some rooms face the sea. For travellers who want a calm, well-run base by the port, it fits well.
Why this position
The same guest score as #10 (9.2), on a smaller body of reviews (167 to 274).

Levantes Ios Boutique Hotel
Ios, Greece
Only a 10-minute walk from the famous Mylopotas Beach, the Levantes Ios Boutique Hotel is located over the sandy beach, offering views towards the neighbouring islands. It features a pool and elegant…
Why this position
A 3-star hotel scoring 9.4 from 415 reviews: the guest verdict outweighs the star class. A lower star class than #11, but guests rate it higher (9.4 to 9.2).

Best for Beach loversMylopotas is the island's most popular bay, featuring a long sweep of golden sand lined with tavernas and beach clubs. It is highly convenient for those who want to split their time between swimming and visiting nearby Chora.
Chora
Best for Dining and nightlifeThe island's main village is a traditional Cycladic settlement of whitewashed alleys and hilltop views. It is the central hub for local restaurants, bars, and transport connections.
Papas Beach
Best for Seclusion and privacySituated on the rugged south-east coast, this remote bay offers dramatic landscapes far from the island's busiest hubs. The area is defined by quiet beaches and limited development.
Areas to consider

How we chose these hotels
At our latest review (August 2026) the properties listed above were measured against the same standard: sustained guest scores on both Booking.com and Google (weighted by how many reviews sit behind them), five-star class or an equivalent premium level, a genuinely first-rate location, and facilities that set the hotel apart.
As a guideline we look for around 8.5 or higher on Booking.com, but no single number decides on its own. When the sources disagree, the broader evidence wins. Guest scores on this page update continuously, and the selection is re-reviewed at regular intervals. The full standard is described in how we choose hotels.
