Alimounda Mare Hotel
Karpathos, Greece
Best overallSituated on a quiet cove in the area of Pigadia, the beachfront Alimounda Mare Hotel offers 5-star accommodation and a large infinity pool. It includes 2 restaurants, 2 bars, a gym and spa…
Why this position
Leads the ranking on the weight of evidence: 191 reviews to #2's 95, although #2 scores higher (9.7 to 8.9).

Althea Boutique Hotel - Adults Only
Karpathos, Greece
Affordable luxuryAlthea Boutique Hotel - Adults Only is a small hotel for couples who want a quiet, personal stay in Amoopi… The pool is its centrepiece, and guests return to it in review after review, along with the view and the pool bar close at hand. The rooms are generous, each with a kitchen and balcony, and guests describe the design as homely and carefully planned. Much of the warmth comes from the owner and her family, who are said to look after every detail, and breakfast brings a different speciality each day. The trade-offs are practical rather than serious. Breakfast is charged separately on some rates, the bathrooms are not the largest, and Amoopi is quiet enough that guests recommend renting a car to see more of Karpathos. Couples who want calm, space and a personal welcome will be well looked after; travellers who want everything included or a lively resort around them may be happier elsewhere.
Why this position
Scores higher than #1 (9.7 to 8.9), on a smaller body of reviews (95 to 191).

Arkasa Palace
Karpathos, Greece
ViewsArkasa Palace is a small, family-run complex in Arkasa on the west coast of Karpathos, and guests talk about it as much for the people as for the place… The owner and her mother come up in review after review for their kindness, and several guests say the hotel feels like home. The rooms, each a little different and decorated in white, blue and yellow, are described as clean, modern and comfortable, with balconies that look out to sea and catch the sunset. Breakfast, served by the pool, is a highlight of the day. There is little to fault, but the set-up suits independent travellers. Breakfast is the only meal on offer, so evenings mean cooking in your own kitchen or walking into Arkasa village, and with the port 8 km away a car makes exploring the island far easier. Couples and anyone after a peaceful, personal base near Agios Nikolaos Beach will feel at home here.
Why this position
Rests on more guest reviews than #2 (272 to 95), at a slightly lower score (9.4 to 9.7).

Why this position
A 4-star hotel scoring 9.5 from 208 reviews: the guest verdict outweighs the star class. Scores higher than #3 (9.5 to 9.4), on a smaller body of reviews (208 to 272).

Arkasa Bay Hotel
Karpathos, Greece
Arkasa Bay Hotel is a small hotel where the owners set the tone… Guests talk above all about the welcome, the care that goes into cleaning and the tips the family share on what to do around Karpathos. Rooms and apartments are spacious, each with a kitchenette, and the balconies look out over the sea towards the sunset. Breakfast is cooked to order rather than laid out as a buffet, and the pool, with a separate pool for children, is kept in good order. The trade-offs are mostly about location. The hotel is not on the sand: Agios Nikolaos Beach is a 7-minute walk and Arkasa Beach 700 metres away. Arkasa is quiet, so trips to Pigadia, Olympos or the island's other beaches call for a hire car. Couples and families who want a friendly, well-kept base in a calm village will feel at home here; travellers looking for beachfront or nightlife are better served elsewhere.
Why this position
Scores higher than #4 (9.7 to 9.5), on a smaller body of reviews (26 to 208).

Areas drawn from our hotels' addresses and updated as the selection changes.
Pigadia (Karpathos Town)
Best for First-time visitorsThe island's main port and capital features a lively waterfront lined with tavernas and shops, alongside a long sandy beach. It is the primary hub for public transport and island exploration.
Ammoopi
Best for Beach loversLocated a short drive south of the capital, this quiet coastal area is known for its sheltered, crystal-clear coves and relaxed pace. It is ideal for swimming and snorkelling away from the busier port town.
Areas to consider
Staying in quieter coastal villages like Ammoopi without renting a vehicle can limit your dining options and make exploring the rest of the island difficult due to infrequent public transport.

How we chose these hotels
At our latest review (August 2026) the properties listed above were measured against the same standard: sustained guest scores on both Booking.com and Google (weighted by how many reviews sit behind them), five-star class or an equivalent premium level, a genuinely first-rate location, and facilities that set the hotel apart.
As a guideline we look for around 8.5 or higher on Booking.com, but no single number decides on its own. When the sources disagree, the broader evidence wins. Guest scores on this page update continuously, and the selection is re-reviewed at regular intervals. The full standard is described in how we choose hotels.
