Grand Relais dei Nuraghi
Sardinia, Italy
Grand Relais dei Nuraghi suits couples and adult travellers who want a small, quiet hotel on the Costa Smeralda, with the sunset as the main event of the evening… It is a 5-star adults-only hotel for guests aged 16 and over, with rooms spread through flowering gardens in Baja Sardinia and wide views over the Maddalena archipelago. Guests praise the staff above all, along with the breakfast, the panoramic pool and a private beach a short walk away where sunbeds and towels are included. The weaknesses are real, however. Several rooms, bathrooms and the reception area are described as due for renovation, which some guests feel the price does not reflect. In high season a neighbouring beach club plays music late into the night, and opinions on dinner and drink prices are mixed. Couples who put calm, service and views first will be happy here; those who want a sleek, modern interior should look elsewhere.
Why this position
Guests on Booking rate it above #8 (8.8 to 8.6), but it has no Google rating yet, which the ranking weighs equally; #8 has 4.6.

Corte Bianca - Adults Only & SPA
Sardinia, Italy
Affordable luxuryCorte Bianca - Adults Only & SPA is built around rest… It is a 4-star adults-only hotel for guests aged 16 and over at Marina di Cardedu in Ogliastra, with rooms set in a large park, two pools, a private beach section and a 5,000 m² wellness area that is included in the stay. Guests return above all to the spa, with its hydromassage path, Turkish bath and flotation pools, and to staff they describe as warm and attentive. The grounds are spotless, and breakfast and lunch under the pines are well liked. The price of that calm is distance. There is little around the hotel, the nearest sights and airports take time to reach, and guests without a car end up relying on taxis. Dinner can be uneven and wifi is weak in parts of the grounds. Couples with a car who want a spa holiday by the sea will find it hard to fault; anyone who wants to walk out to restaurants should choose a livelier base.

Why this position
A 4-star hotel scoring 9.3 from 834 reviews: the guest verdict outweighs the star class. Scores higher than #11 (9.3 to 9.2), on a smaller body of reviews (834 to 1,813).

Hotel Nautilus Excelsior - Adults Only
Sardinia, Italy
Hotel Nautilus Excelsior is made for couples and adult travellers who want the beach on the doorstep and a small, quiet hotel to come back to… It is an adults-only house of 18 rooms on the Poetto seafront in Cagliari, with modern rooms, balconies over the bay and, in some rooms, a private hot tub. Guests speak most warmly about the staff, the cleanliness and breakfast on the rooftop terrace, and they describe the infinity pool as calm. The trade-offs follow from its size. Rooms are compact for the rate on a bed-and-breakfast basis, and dinner in the hotel offers limited choice, so many guests eat out in Cagliari instead. Parking along the seafront is tight in high season. Couples who want a personal, well-run base by the sea will be well looked after; anyone after a large resort with several restaurants should look elsewhere.
Why this position
A 4-star hotel scoring 9.3 from 294 reviews: the guest verdict outweighs the star class. The same guest score as #12 (9.3), on a smaller body of reviews (294 to 834).

Hotel Catalunya
Sardinia, Italy
Facing the tourist harbor, this 4-star hotel features a lounge and a restaurant open year-round for breakfast only. It is just a 5-minute walk from Alghero’s historic centre…

The largest body of guest feedback on this page: 2,173 reviews, averaging 8.7. Rests on more guest reviews than #13 (2,173 to 294), at a slightly lower score (8.7 to 9.3).

Read our methodologyWhere to stay on Sardinia?
Areas drawn from our hotels' addresses and updated as the selection changes.
Costa Smeralda & The North-East
Best for Jet-setters and beach loversKnown for its granite formations, turquoise waters, and exclusive yacht marinas. This region is home to some of the island's most celebrated seaside resorts.
Alghero & The Northwest
Best for History and coastal walksThis area features a historic Catalan-influenced walled city and the dramatic sea cliffs of the Porto Conte regional park.
Southern Sardinia
Best for Culture and quiet retreatsSpanning the historic capital of Cagliari and the quiet, sandy coastlines of Pula and Castiadas. This region offers a more relaxed pace and a mix of archaeological sites and sandy beaches.
Areas to consider
Many coastal resorts and local restaurants close completely outside the peak summer months, and navigating the island without a hire car can be challenging due to limited public transport.

How we chose these hotels
At our latest review (August 2026) the properties listed above were measured against the same standard: sustained guest scores on both Booking.com and Google (weighted by how many reviews sit behind them), five-star class or an equivalent premium level, a genuinely first-rate location, and facilities that set the hotel apart.
As a guideline we look for around 8.5 or higher on Booking.com, but no single number decides on its own. When the sources disagree, the broader evidence wins. Guest scores on this page update continuously, and the selection is re-reviewed at regular intervals. The full standard is described in how we choose hotels.
