Sheraton Stockholm Hotel
Stockholm, Sweden
Sheraton Stockholm Hotel is a practical choice for travellers who want the city within walking distance… It stands at Tegelbacken in Norrmalm, 300 metres from Stockholm Central Station and a few minutes' walk from Gamla stan, and guests repeatedly single out the location, saying they could reach most sights on foot. The rooms are modern and well refurbished, with luxury beds, and some look out over Lake Mälaren, Gamla stan or the City Hall. Guests describe them as clean and comfortable, sometimes large enough for two double beds, and praise the friendly, professional staff. This is a large, business-minded hotel rather than an intimate one, and a few details let it down. On busy mornings the breakfast buffet can feel stretched, connecting to the Wi-Fi for the first time can be awkward, and housekeeping is occasionally uneven. Travellers who value location and comfort over character will find a dependable base here.
Why this position
The same guest score as #7 (8.7), on a smaller body of reviews (825 to 1,089).

Hotel Rival
Stockholm, Sweden
Affordable luxuryHotel Rival suits travellers who want character and neighbourhood life rather than a big-hotel feel… It fills a 1930s Art Deco building on Mariatorget, a tree-lined square in Södermalm, and each room carries a scene from a classic Swedish film. Guests describe the area as quiet yet well placed, with the metro close by and a short walk to the centre and several other neighbourhoods. The beds come up again and again as unusually comfortable, the breakfast is praised as generous, and the staff are remembered as helpful and accommodating. The bar and the decor add to a relaxed, stylish mood. The compromises are modest. Standard rooms are fairly small, a few guests hear street noise at night, and getting to the airport means dragging cases to the train. Couples and city-breakers who value atmosphere and a good night's sleep will be well looked after.
Why this position
Among the three highest guest scores of the 17 hotels we rank here: 9.3 from 1,879 reviews. A lower star class than #8, but guests rate it higher (9.3 to 8.7).

Hotel Ruth
Stockholm, Sweden
Hotel Ruth is for travellers who want a hotel with personality and a genuinely warm welcome… It sits in Vasastan, in central Stockholm, and guests note how easy it is to get around by public transport. What they mention most is the breakfast, which several call phenomenal, with warm dishes, fresh pastries and vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices. The staff are praised almost as often: friendly, attentive and quick to make people feel at home. The thoughtfully designed lobby works as a living room, and evening drinks in the bar keep the mood sociable. The main drawback is space. The smallest rooms are very compact, standard rooms can lack storage beyond a wardrobe, and the odd shower or sink is temperamental. Some guests also miss a kettle and a bathrobe. Couples who spend their days out in the city will find a charming, sociable base.
Why this position
Sits behind #9 on both the score (9.2 to 9.3) and the sample it rests on (1,229 to 1,879 reviews).

Home Hotel Tapetfabriken
Stockholm, Sweden
Home Hotel Tapetfabriken feels less like a city hotel than a large, comfortable living room… It sits on Marcusplatsen in Nacka, on the edge of Hammarby Sjöstad, and guests describe a stylish, warm interior with an open reception, a lounge where they happily linger for hours and staff who make them feel at home. Rooms are spacious and clean, comfortable even for a family of four, and the breakfast is praised for its range. Some guests also had dinner included in their stay, and there is a sauna, a fitness centre and private parking. The trade-off is location. This is not central Stockholm, so days in Gamla stan or the centre begin with a trip by public transport or car, although guests say the connections are good and the neighbourhood has plenty of shops. Dinner is simple, with little choice. Families and drivers will find a calm, well-run base; anyone who wants to step straight out into the old town should stay closer in.
Why this position
The largest body of guest feedback on this page: 6,338 reviews, averaging 9.1. Rests on more guest reviews than #10 (6,338 to 1,229), at a slightly lower score (9.1 to 9.2).

Hotel Skeppsholmen
Stockholm, Sweden
Peace and quietHotel Skeppsholmen is for travellers who want Stockholm close by but prefer to sleep somewhere quiet… It occupies a 1690s building on Skeppsholmen, a peaceful island 300 metres from Moderna Museet, and every room looks out over parkland or water. Guests say it feels like the countryside in the middle of the city, yet the ferry is a few steps away and makes easy work of Gamla stan and the Vasa Museum, with buses and pleasant walks as well. The clean Scandinavian design, the restaurant and the breakfast win steady praise, as does a helpful, friendly team. The drawbacks are small and mostly down to the building and the setting. Corridors are long, some guests find the designer basin and the lights above the bed more stylish than practical, and seagulls can be cheeky at breakfast. Anyone who values calm, design and nature will feel at home here.
Why this position
The same guest score as #11 (9.1), on a smaller body of reviews (1,821 to 6,338).

NOFO Hotel
Stockholm, Sweden
NOFO Hotel suits travellers who want a hotel with personality in trendy Södermalm… It occupies a listed building from 1780, with Medborgarplatsen metro station 300 metres away and Gamla stan less than 15 minutes on foot. The rooms are individually styled after New York, London, Paris, Rome and Scandinavia, and many look out over the courtyard or Katarina Church. Guests return again and again to the breakfast, the cosy bar and the inner courtyard, which works well for a glass in the evening, and they describe the service as warm and personal. The old building brings a few compromises. Some bathrooms are very small, and top-floor rooms with small windows can feel rather dark. There is no gym or spa either. Couples and city explorers who want character, good food and the shops of Götgatan a few blocks away will be well looked after; anyone who wants spacious rooms and wellness facilities may prefer a larger hotel.
Why this position
Rests on more guest reviews than #12 (2,788 to 1,821), at a slightly lower score (9.0 to 9.1).

Villa Dahlia
Stockholm, Sweden
Spa & wellnessVilla Dahlia is for travellers who want central Stockholm without staying in the thick of it… The hotel looks out over Tegnérlunden, a small park in Vasastan, with Drottninggatan 150 metres away and the Central Station a 10-minute walk. Guests describe an elegant lobby that makes a strong first impression, stylish rooms where the details have been thought through and beds they found very comfortable. Breakfast, served with a view over the park, gets consistent praise, and in the evening the rooftop bar, with drinks and views across the city, is a favourite. The trade-offs are mostly about space. Some guests found their room small, some windows do not open, and the entrance can be awkward with large suitcases or a pushchair. Couples and solo travellers who plan to spend their days out exploring, with Gamla stan and the Royal Palace within walking distance, will find a calm, polished base; families who need room to spread out may prefer somewhere larger.
Why this position
The same guest score as #13 (9.0), on a smaller body of reviews (1,961 to 2,788).

Hotel Kungsträdgården
Stockholm, Sweden
Hotel Kungsträdgården is a good fit for travellers who want to step straight out into the city… It opened in 2015 in a fully renovated 18th-century building in Norrmalm, beside the Kungsträdgården park, with the shopping streets within walking distance and the Central Station 1 km away. The rooms are individually decorated in Gustavian style, so the setting feels classic rather than minimalist. Guests repeatedly praise the staff and the concierge for being friendly and genuinely helpful, describe their rooms as quiet and comfortable, and many single out the breakfast. The compromises are small. A few guests would have liked more toiletries, and not everyone was equally taken with the breakfast. There is a fitness centre but no spa or pool, so this is a hotel for sightseeing rather than lingering indoors. First-time visitors and anyone who wants Gamla stan and the shops within walking distance will find a calm, well-run base here.
Why this position
The same guest score as #14 (9.0), on a smaller body of reviews (1,003 to 1,961).

Villa Dagmar
Stockholm, Sweden
Villa Dagmar in Stockholm offers a central position with the Army Museum a 2-minute walk away, Stureplan 400 metres nearby, and the Vasa Museum 17 minutes on foot. The Royal Palace is 1.2 km from the…
Why this position
Sits behind #15 on both the score (8.8 to 9.0) and the sample it rests on (770 to 1,003 reviews).

Hôtel Reisen in The Unbound Collection by Hyatt
Stockholm, Sweden
Situated on the water front in Old Town, this hotel is 150 metres from the Royal Palace…
Why this position
Guests on Booking rate it above #16 (8.8 to 8.8), but #16 leads on Google (4.4 to 4.3), which the ranking weighs equally.

Read our methodologyWhere to stay in Stockholm?
Areas drawn from our hotels' addresses and updated as the selection changes.
Norrmalm
Best for Central shopping and transitNorrmalm is the modern city centre of Stockholm, home to major transport hubs, department stores, and financial institutions. It offers convenient access to the central railway station and waterfront views across to the Royal Palace.
Östermalm
Best for High-end dining and shoppingThis elegant residential district is known for its wide avenues, upscale boutiques, and gourmet food hall at Östermalmstorg. It borders the Royal Djurgården park and has a quieter, affluent atmosphere.
Gamla Stan
Best for History and characterStockholm's medieval old town features narrow cobblestone streets, preserved 17th-century architecture, and the Royal Palace. It is highly walkable but can become busy with day tourists.
Södermalm
Best for Creative local culturePositioned south of the old town, Södermalm has a relaxed, bohemian character with independent shops, local cafes, and elevated viewing points over the city's waterways.
Areas to consider
While Gamla Stan offers historic charm, its narrow streets can become highly crowded with tour groups, and some peripheral areas near Central Station in Norrmalm can feel quiet and less welcoming late at night.

Each bar shows how a hotel's nightly price moved over the period, leaving out the most unusual days. The marker is its typical price.
Every hotel counts once, at its own typical price, so hotels we happened to check more often don't carry more weight. Prices are the lowest rate available for the whole stay, worked out per night in euros.

How we chose these hotels
At our latest review (August 2026) the properties listed above were measured against the same standard: sustained guest scores on both Booking.com and Google (weighted by how many reviews sit behind them), five-star class or an equivalent premium level, a genuinely first-rate location, and facilities that set the hotel apart.
As a guideline we look for around 8.5 or higher on Booking.com, but no single number decides on its own. When the sources disagree, the broader evidence wins. Guest scores on this page update continuously, and the selection is re-reviewed at regular intervals. The full standard is described in how we choose hotels.
