Pierros Verde is made for travellers who want calm close to the action… The five-star hotel sits in Lithakia, in the Agios Sostis area, tucked away from the busy main street of Laganas yet a short walk from Laganas Beach and 5 km from the airport. Guests describe it as beautifully curated, classy and spotless, and they return again and again to the peace of the place, the kind and helpful staff and an outstanding breakfast. A spa with sauna and steam room, a fitness room and a sun terrace keep the focus on unwinding. Guests have very little to criticise, so the trade-offs are practical. The beach is a walk rather than right outside, and there is one restaurant, backed up by a bar and a coffee shop, so variety means heading out. Laganas itself is lively in summer, which some will enjoy and others will avoid. Couples and anyone seeking a quiet, polished retreat will feel well looked after.

Contessina Hotel works well for travellers who want a polished, modern hotel without giving up the convenience of a resort town… It sits on a quiet road near the centre of Tsilivi, 100 metres from a Blue Flag sandy beach, and its three buildings wrap around the pool and cocktail bar. Guests return again and again to how clean and well kept everything is, to the friendly staff and to a breakfast with a full coffee bar, while swim-up suites and family rooms add choice. The trade-offs are modest. Some rooms, including ground-floor rooms by the main pool, are on the small side, and one guest found a sofa bed where a second double was expected. The beach is a short walk rather than right outside, and Tsilivi gets busy in summer. Families and friends who want comfort with the town close at hand will feel at home here; anyone seeking a secluded hideaway should look elsewhere.

St John Villas Zakynthos is made for travellers who want a home of their own rather than a hotel room… The villas stand among olive trees on the outskirts of Tsilivi, each with a private pool, garden, entrance and parking space, and they look out over the Ionian Sea and Tsilivi beach. Reviews keep returning to the same points: the views, the space inside the villas, the spotless housekeeping and staff who are on hand whenever needed. The trade-off is that this is neither a beach hotel nor a full-scale resort. The beach lies below the villas rather than at the door, there is a single restaurant alongside the bar and mini market, and wellness means massage rooms, hydromassage and a gym rather than a large spa. Families, groups and couples who plan to spend their days by their own pool will find a calm and private base; those after a busy resort scene will be happier elsewhere.

Guests praise the views, how clean and comfortable the suites are and the friendly concierge, and they like being able to walk to restaurants, bars and the beach. An infinity pool and a sun terrace add space beyond the suites. The drawbacks are minor. Tsilivi Beach is about five minutes away on foot rather than at the door, one guest found the property hard to reach before arrival, and another missed having the water in the suite topped up daily. Zakynthos Town and the airport are both within easy reach by car. For a calm, private base in a lively resort, it is a well-judged choice.

The drawbacks are modest but worth knowing. Sunbeds on the beach are charged separately, the dining room has no air conditioning and can feel hot at mealtimes, and the beds can be on the firm side. Groups who want to stay side by side should ask for neighbouring rooms when booking. For a calm stay with a pool close at hand, it is a well-run choice.

Couples looking for a well-run spa hotel close to the beach will find plenty to like; anyone who needs a strong connection everywhere should ask about the room before booking.

At our latest review (August 2026) the properties listed above were measured against the same standard: sustained guest scores on both Booking.com and Google (weighted by how many reviews sit behind them), five-star class or an equivalent premium level, a genuinely first-rate location, and facilities that set the hotel apart.
