Vila Vita Parc
Algarve, Portugal
Best overallVila Vita Parc is set on a clifftop overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Located in Alporchinhos, it consists of Moorish-style buildings surrounded by tropical gardens…
Why this position
Among the three highest guest scores of the 15 hotels we rank here: 9.5 from 678 reviews. Leads the ranking on Google's rating (4.8 to 0.0), where the Booking score sits slightly lower (9.5 to 9.5).

3HB Faro
Algarve, Portugal
Peace and quiet3HB Faro is a city hotel first and foremost… It stands on Rua Vasco da Gama in the centre of Faro, 7 km from Faro Airport, and guests repeatedly say that restaurants and shops are an easy walk away while the hotel itself stays quiet. The rooftop is the main draw, with an infinity pool, a bar and a terrace looking out over the city, plus an outdoor fireplace for cooler evenings. Reviewers also praise the warm, helpful staff and the spacious, clean rooms with large bathrooms and walk-in showers. A few points come up less favourably. Service at breakfast and on the rooftop can be hit and miss, one guest expected a wider breakfast choice for a five-star hotel, and the modern room lighting takes some getting used to. As a city address it has no beach on the doorstep, so it works best for travellers who want to explore Faro on foot and come back to a pool with a view.
Why this position
Among the three highest guest scores of the 15 hotels we rank here: 9.5 from 2,587 reviews. Guests on Booking rate it above #1 (9.5 to 9.5), but it has no Google rating yet, which the ranking weighs equally; #1 has 4.8.

Vilalara Grand Hotel Algarve
Algarve, Portugal
BeachSet on the cliffs above Praia das Gaivotas, with 11 hectares of gardens and direct beach access, Vilalara Grand Hotel Algarve pioneered thalassotherapy in Portugal and offers 6 restaurants and 2 bars…
Why this position
Sits behind #2 on both the score (9.4 to 9.5) and the sample it rests on (762 to 2,587 reviews).

Luxury hotels in the Algarve – 3 details you did not know

Vila Joya
Algarve, Portugal
GolfThe resort features two outdoor pools, spa facilities and a golf academy, offering customized training…
Why this position
Scores higher than #3 (9.5 to 9.4), on a smaller body of reviews (24 to 762).

Conrad Algarve
Algarve, Portugal
DiningOffering an infinity pool, the luxury 5-star Conrad Algarve is set in the golfers’ paradise Quinta do Lago. Its high-tech rooms feature balconies overlooking the palms or the pool…
Why this position
Rests on more guest reviews than #4 (441 to 24), at a slightly lower score (8.9 to 9.5).

Octant Vila Monte
Algarve, Portugal
Octant Vila Monte is a countryside retreat rather than a beach hotel… It sits among orange groves near Moncarapacho, about 10 km from Olhão, and its four low buildings in traditional Algarve style are spread across lush, carefully landscaped gardens with two outdoor pools and a pond where guests spot fish and turtles. Reviewers praise the calm atmosphere, the friendly front-desk team and the cooking at both breakfast and dinner, and some single out the Pilates classes as a highlight. The trade-offs are modest. A few guests could hear traffic from the larger roads nearby, the gym is fairly basic, and the superior rooms feel less special than the grounds around them. Fuseta beach is a 10-minute drive away, so a hire car makes the stay much easier. It suits couples who want to unwind in a green, quiet setting and come back from the coast to a good dinner.
Why this position
Among the three highest guest scores of the 15 hotels we rank here: 9.5 from 195 reviews. Scores higher than #5 (9.5 to 8.9), on a smaller body of reviews (195 to 441).

Domes Lake Algarve
Algarve, Portugal
Spa & wellnessDomes Lake Algarve is a resort for guests who want pools, gardens and the marina all within reach… It lies in Vilamoura, a 7-minute walk from Vilamoura Marina and less than 1 km from Praia da Falésia, with Faro Airport 26 km away. Reviews keep coming back to the staff, described as friendly, attentive and willing to go the extra mile, and to the well-kept grounds with four pools, one of them open all year. The breakfast spread earns praise too, and a children's playground and family rooms make it an easy choice for families. The weaker points lie mostly in the evenings and the rooms. Food and drink on site are on the expensive side, the evening buffet disappoints some guests after such a good breakfast, and not every restaurant is open every day. Some bedrooms look a little dated, and one guest wished the balconies had more privacy. It suits couples and families who want a polished resort close to the marina.
Why this position
Rests on more guest reviews than #6 (767 to 195), at a slightly lower score (9.1 to 9.5).

Jupiter Albufeira Hotel
Algarve, Portugal
All inclusiveJupiter Albufeira Hotel - Family & Fun - All Inclusive 24h is a 5-star family-friendly hotel located in Albufeira’s Montechoro area, just a 10-minute drive from Oura Beach and Albufeira’s town centre…
Why this position
Sits behind #7 on both the score (8.7 to 9.1) and the sample it rests on (719 to 767 reviews).

EPIC SANA Algarve Hotel
Algarve, Portugal
EPIC SANA Algarve Hotel suits travellers who want the beach and a full resort in one place… It stands in a landscaped pinewood above Praia da Falésia, between Vilamoura and Albufeira, with direct access down to the sand. Guests are full of praise for the setting of trees, cliffs and sea, for the generously sized rooms with white marble bathrooms and balconies, and for the friendly, professional staff. The extensive spa, an indoor pool and five outdoor pools make it easy to spend whole days on site, and one guest singled out the Japanese restaurant. The criticism is mostly about cost. Food and drink at the hotel are expensive, some guests felt prices were not always clear up front, and loungers on the beach are charged separately. Breakfast can feel repetitive over a longer stay, a few guests found the pool water on the cool side, and one found the beds too firm. It suits couples who want spa days and the beach without leaving the resort.
Why this position
Guests on Booking rate it above #8 (9.0 to 8.7), but it has no Google rating yet, which the ranking weighs equally; #8 has 4.5.

Pousada Palácio Estoi
Algarve, Portugal
BoutiquePousada Palácio Estoi is for travellers who want history alongside their comfort… It occupies the grounds of a 19th-century palace in Estói, about 10 km from Faro, and pairs the original rooms, with their wall paintings and antique furniture, with a contemporary wing that one guest likened to a modern art museum. Gardens and tea pavilions surround the buildings, and there are indoor and outdoor pools and a sauna. Guests speak warmly of the staff, the superb breakfast, the massages and the relaxed, refined atmosphere. Evenings are less consistent. The restaurant drew mixed comments, from a good supper to slow and disappointing service, and one guest found the pool too shallow and the mattresses too firm. Estói is a little out of the way, so a car helps, although Faro, Loulé and Faro Airport are all within easy reach. It suits couples who want a characterful base inland rather than a beach resort.
Why this position
Level with #9 on the guest score (9.0) and on the reviews behind it.

Pine Cliffs Hotel, a Luxury Collection Resort, Algarve
Algarve, Portugal
This 5-star hotel has a stunning cliff-top location above Portugal’s longest beach, Praia da Falésia. It features luxury spa facilities and a seasonal water sports centre…
Why this position
Sits behind #10 on both the score (8.5 to 9.0) and the sample it rests on (566 to 1,120 reviews).

Ria Park Hotel & Spa
Algarve, Portugal
Ria Park Hotel & Spa is a good fit for travellers who want a calm, well-kept hotel with the beach still within walking distance… It sits in tropical gardens between Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago, and Garrão Beach, with a concession area for guests in summer, is about 10 minutes away on foot, as are several restaurants. Guests speak warmly about the friendly reception and pool bar staff, the cleanliness of rooms and shared areas, and a generous breakfast with plenty of hot and cold choices. Several come back time and again. The trade-offs are modest. Trees shade much of the pool area, which looks lovely but leaves less sun for those who want to tan. Rooms lack smart TVs for streaming from a phone, and the live piano in the bar does not suit every taste. Couples and travellers who value quiet, attentive service will feel at home; sun seekers who want a pool in full sun all day may prefer to look elsewhere.
Why this position
Guests on Booking rate it above #11 (8.9 to 8.5), but it has no Google rating yet, which the ranking weighs equally; #11 has 4.6.

Wyndham Grand Algarve Quinta do Lago
Algarve, Portugal
Wyndham Grand Algarve Quinta do Lago is built around space… Every unit is a suite with its own living room and a balcony over landscaped gardens, and the hotel sits inside the Quinta do Lago golf resort, with the Ria Formosa Nature Park all around. Guests are most enthusiastic about the modern, generously sized suites, the pool area with its comfortable sunbeds and the breakfast, and many single out the friendly staff and how clean and well maintained everything is. The adults-only spa offers a quieter retreat. The pool is also where most of the criticism lands. Service there can be slow, and on busy days the water fills with swimmers and inflatables, which some guests find hectic. The setting is peaceful but spread out, so most restaurants and beaches mean a car or a taxi. Couples and friends who want a roomy, polished base will be happy here; anyone hoping to walk everywhere should look closer to a town centre.
Why this position
Guests rate it above #12 (8.9 to 8.9) and on more reviews (1,233 to 979).

Tivoli Marina Vilamoura
Algarve, Portugal
Tivoli Marina Vilamoura suits travellers who want resort comforts without being cut off from the town… The hotel stands between Vilamoura Marina and the Atlantic, so the marina's restaurants and bars are a short stroll away while the PuroBeach Vilamoura beach club lies on the sand out front. Guests repeatedly mention helpful staff, comfortable beds and rooms with good views, and the pools, breakfast and spa in 30,000 m² of gardens give plenty of reasons to stay in. The criticisms are mostly about atmosphere and cost. Food and drinks in the hotel's restaurants and bars in the evening strike some guests as expensive, and the pool bar can turn loud when larger groups settle in. A few guests also found some staff members cooler than the rest. Couples and friends who want a polished base in central Vilamoura will be well placed here; anyone after quiet seclusion may prefer somewhere further from the marina.
Why this position
Level with #13 on the guest score (8.9) and on the reviews behind it.

The Westin Salgados Beach Resort, Algarve
Algarve, Portugal
The Westin Salgados Beach Resort, Algarve suits travellers who want a large, polished resort with the sea just behind the dunes… A boardwalk path leads to Salgados Beach in about two minutes, and six outdoor pools, four restaurants and a spa keep the days easy. Staff earn the most consistent praise, described again and again as friendly, attentive and willing to help, and guests also rate the spacious rooms, the cleanliness and the food. The boardwalks through the dunes make walks by the sea part of the stay. The main criticism concerns cost. Several guests find prices in the hotel's restaurants and bars high, and at busy times the bar can feel short-staffed. The resort is spread out, so reaching some areas, including the pools, can mean a longer walk. Couples and families who want space, sea air and attentive service will be well looked after; on a tighter budget, meals at the hotel can add up quickly.
Why this position
Sits behind #14 on both the score (8.8 to 8.9) and the sample it rests on (395 to 1,497 reviews).

How we chose these hotels
At our latest review (August 2026) the properties listed above were measured against the same standard: sustained guest scores on both Booking.com and Google (weighted by how many reviews sit behind them), five-star class or an equivalent premium level, a first-rate location, and facilities that set the hotel apart.
As a guideline we look for around 8.5 or higher on Booking.com, but no single number decides on its own. When the sources disagree, the broader evidence wins. Guest scores on this page update continuously, and the selection is re-reviewed at regular intervals. The full standard is described in how we choose hotels.
