Hotel Well and Come Málaga
Málaga, Spain
Affordable luxuryHotel Well and Come Málaga is a modern city hotel for travellers who want to spend the day in the old town and the late afternoon by a pool… It sits on a street in the centre, about 400 metres from the Picasso Museum, and its rooftop, with a pool, comfortable loungers, a sun terrace and a bar, is what guests talk about most. Reviews also keep returning to the staff, the clean and fresh decor and the calm atmosphere that greets you at the entrance. The compromises are mostly about space. Rooms are on the small side, particularly for three people with luggage, and those facing the interior get little daylight. La Malagueta beach is a 16-minute walk away rather than on the doorstep. Couples and friends on a city break will find a stylish, well-run base with a pool; anyone who needs a large room or a stay by the sea should look elsewhere.
Why this position
Highest guest score of the 15 hotels we rank here: 9.5 from 2,251 reviews. Scores higher than #6 (9.5 to 9.2), on a smaller body of reviews (2,251 to 3,213).

H10 Croma Málaga
Málaga, Spain
H10 Croma Málaga is a modern hotel for travellers who want to see Málaga on foot… It sits on Calle Prim in the city centre, close to the Picasso Museum and the Alcazaba, and guests keep describing the location as perfect, whether they arrived by train or are heading on to the airport. The rooms are stylish and comfortable, housekeeping is thorough, and the staff make guests feel welcome from the start, down to a welcome drink. On the roof, a pool and a bar offer a place to cool off with a view. That pool is small, though, and the loungers could be more comfortable, so this is not a hotel for long days by the water. La Malagueta beach is 1.9 km away. Some guests also found the hotel pricey, and balconies are small where rooms have them. For a stylish, central city break it works well; for a beach holiday, look closer to the sea.
Why this position
A 4-star hotel scoring 9.3 from 2,363 reviews: the guest verdict outweighs the star class. Rests on more guest reviews than #7 (2,363 to 2,251), at a slightly lower score (9.3 to 9.5).

Catalonia Puerta del Mar
Málaga, Spain
Catalonia Puerta del Mar is a modern city hotel for travellers who want to be right in the middle of Málaga… It stands on Calle Puerta del Mar in the centre, and guests keep coming back to the location: everything they wanted to see was a 5 to 10 minute walk away. The staff are described as polite, attentive and especially helpful at check-in, and breakfast, with local specialities and fresh pastries, gets some of the warmest praise. Rooms are comfortable, clean and cosy, and the restaurant serves Mediterranean cooking. Space is the main trade-off. Some rooms, particularly on the fourth floor, are compact with small windows, and the family room suits a short stay better than a long one. The gym is small, and breakfast ends at 10:30, so late risers need to keep an eye on the clock. For couples and friends on a city break it is a central, well-run choice; families who need room to spread out should look further.
Why this position
A 4-star hotel scoring 9.3 from 1,781 reviews: the guest verdict outweighs the star class. The same guest score as #8 (9.3), on a smaller body of reviews (1,781 to 2,363).

Cristine Bedfor Malaga Boutique Hotel
Málaga, Spain
Cristine Bedfor Malaga Boutique Hotel is for travellers who choose a hotel for its character… It is a petite property in the centre of Málaga, and guests keep describing the same things: chic, beautiful interiors, comfortable beds, quiet rooms and the feeling of staying in someone's home rather than a hotel. The staff are praised as pleasant and helpful, breakfast is called excellent, and the location puts the city's streets at the door with La Malagueta beach a short walk away. The trade-offs come with the format. There is no pool or spa, so the hotel works as a stylish base for exploring rather than a place to spend the afternoon, and the beach is a walk rather than a step away. At least one guest also found their room quite dark. Couples and city breakers who value design and a walkable address will feel at home here; anyone hoping for resort facilities should look elsewhere.
Why this position
Sits behind #9 on both the score (9.2 to 9.3) and the sample it rests on (637 to 1,781 reviews).

Room Mate Collection Valeria, Málaga
Málaga, Spain
Room Mate Collection Valeria, Málaga is built for travellers who want to spend their days on foot… Calle Larios is 200 metres away, and guests describe the location as ideal, with the Historic Centre on one side and the lively port on the other. The rooftop terrace is the other draw, with city views, a small plunge pool and a bar whose cocktails get warm mentions. Guests also praise the helpful staff, the very clean rooms and a breakfast with plenty of choice that runs until 12:00. The pool is the main point to be clear about: it is a seasonal plunge pool for cooling off, not for swimming, and one guest found it too cold. One guest felt the decor is starting to date, and another was given twin beds after asking for a double. For a central, well-run base with a terrace to come back to, it delivers; for a resort-style pool, look further afield.
Why this position
Rests on more guest reviews than #10 (2,641 to 637), at a slightly lower score (9.1 to 9.2).

Mariposa Hotel Malaga
Málaga, Spain
Mariposa Hotel Malaga is a good fit for travellers who want a calm, well-kept base and plan to spend their days out in the city… Calle Larios is 400 metres away and the Historic Centre, with its tapas bars and the Picasso Museum, is within 15 minutes' walk. Guests return again and again to the same strengths: an excellent location, extremely helpful and friendly staff, and rooms that are spotless, comfortable and quiet. The art deco-style rooms, bright colours and rooftop bar give the hotel a personality of its own. The weaker points are small. One guest found the coffee poor, and another missed a bar open late for residents. There is also no pool or spa, so this is a hotel for sightseeing rather than for lounging. Couples and city breakers who value a convenient address and a friendly team will be well looked after here.
Why this position
The same guest score as #11 (9.1), on a smaller body of reviews (1,727 to 2,641).

Palacio Solecio, a Small Luxury Hotel of the World
Málaga, Spain
Palacio Solecio is made for travellers who want to stay in the thick of Málaga's Historic Centre… The hotel occupies a converted old palace on Calle Granada, a few steps from the Picasso Museum, with the Alcazaba and the Cathedral within 400 metres and La Malagueta beach about a 15-minute walk away. Guests speak warmly about the staff, the breakfast and the way the historic building has been given modern, comfortable rooms with spotless bathrooms and effective air conditioning. The main trade-off is space on the roof. The rooftop pool is small and seasonal, and some guests found it busy with families, while the rooftop bar area is compact too. Couples and city-breakers who spend their days in the old town and come back to a calm, well-run base will feel at home here; anyone who wants a large pool for long, lazy afternoons is better served elsewhere.
Why this position
Rests on more guest reviews than #12 (2,881 to 1,727), at a slightly lower score (9.0 to 9.1).

Malabar by Petit Palace
Málaga, Spain
Malabar by Petit Palace is made for travellers who want a comfortable, well-run base for exploring Málaga on foot… The hotel, formerly Icon Malabar, sits on Calle Tomás Heredia, close to the old town and the marina, and guests find the central train station and the airport easy to reach. They speak most warmly about the breakfast, the welcoming and attentive staff and the clean, generous rooms in a beautifully renovated building. The trade-offs are small but worth knowing. Breakfast can slow down later in the morning and at peak times, with less choice left, so an early start pays off. One guest found the room a little noisy from the street despite the soundproofing, and there isn't really a bar for evening drinks. Couples and city-breakers who spend their evenings out in town will find it an easy place to stay; anyone who wants a lively bar under the same roof should look elsewhere.
Why this position
Guests rate it above #13 (9.0 to 9.0) and on more reviews (3,914 to 2,881).

Petit Palace La Equitativa
Málaga, Spain
Petit Palace La Equitativa is made for travellers who want to be in the middle of Málaga without needing a car… The hotel sits on Alameda Principal, between the town centre and the marina, with La Malagueta beach a 17-minute walk away and the Alameda train station close by for the airport. Guests speak most warmly about the location, the friendly team and the views from the rooms and terraces, and the roof adds a swimming pool for warm afternoons. The trade-offs are modest. Breakfast is generally good, but one guest felt it fell short of the cafés nearby, and the beach is a walk rather than a step away. The shuttle service also costs extra. Couples and city-breakers who plan to spend their days exploring will find a comfortable, well-placed base with rooms that feel spacious; anyone who wants sand on the doorstep is better served by the seafront.
Why this position
The largest body of guest feedback on this page: 5,293 reviews, averaging 9.0. Guests rate it above #14 (9.0 to 9.0) and on more reviews (5,293 to 3,914).

How we chose these hotels
At our latest review (August 2026) the properties listed above were measured against the same standard: sustained guest scores on both Booking.com and Google (weighted by how many reviews sit behind them), five-star class or an equivalent premium level, a genuinely first-rate location, and facilities that set the hotel apart.
As a guideline we look for around 8.5 or higher on Booking.com, but no single number decides on its own. When the sources disagree, the broader evidence wins. Guest scores on this page update continuously, and the selection is re-reviewed at regular intervals. The full standard is described in how we choose hotels.
